Fire - Rescue
In the heat of the day, in the dead of the night
A crash on the road, or a fire to fight
The bad ones and worst ones, they’ve been to them all
when the signal goes out, they answer the call
Never too sure what perils they’ll face
or what they may see that time won’t erase
None of them people much different from you
And, no, they don’t love it, it’s just what they do
For somehow, when someones life is on the line
Or a home full of memories built up over time
The heart starts to pump, the adrenalin flows
And never stopping to think, he just goes.
It was sometime this morning he answered the tone
He’s hot, and he’s sweaty...and glad to be home
But then comes the tone; he’s running once more ...
Grabbing his gear on the way to the door.
- Or her gear - she leaving her family behind
Because someone else’s may be on the line
Yielding a hose in the flames like the rest
You can’t tell them apart, when their put to the test
For these men and women are chosen and few
The blood in their veins make them do what they do
It’s a journey of danger, and they're on their way
and grabbing a fraction of time they might pray..
Lord, let my skills to get in there and fight
Blend with my knowledge to do the job right
and Lord, I know we may face the extreme
I ask you keep your hand on this team.
My brothers and sisters- of rescue and fire
Let no one be hurt, Lord, and no one expire
when the flames have died out, and there’s no more to burn
Please let each one, safe, to their family return
“AMEN.” they may wisper, and run into the night
Though the walls of smoke gone out of sight
They’re nighbors and friends- they’re heroes unsung
seldom remebered for all they have done
But often remembered or never at all
The team never fails to respond to the call
And for those who have watched, never fails to inspire
These- brothers and sisters- of Rescue and Fire
