BUECHEL FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT

Buechel Fire Protection District starts new Explorer Post

The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to start an Explorer Post through the Boy Scouts of America at their October 7, 2003 meeting.  In keeping with this years theme for the Fall Round-up - Get Fired Up For Scouting!, the Board approved the proposal brought to them by Assistant Chief Richard Harrison and Training Officer Charlie Riggle.  The plan is to convert the, already successful, Cadet Program ran by the Training Bureau to a Boy Scouts of America Explorer Post.  The current program includes 16-18 year old youth and would be expanded to include youth as young as 14 who are interested in the fire service as a potential career to learn more.

Lieutenant Steve Wolfe is the Districts Lead Youth Advisor and will lead a team of Advisors to instruct the Explorers and oversee their progress.  The Training Bureau and Fire Prevention Bureau will benefit as well with the additional resources the membership will provide.  Public Education and Information will no doubt be enhanced as well with the addition of these young people to help spread the knowledge they obtain as Explorers.
