Buechel Cadet Program

Buechel's Cadet program is for young men and women who have completed the eighth grade and are between 14 years of age, but have not yet reached their 18th birthday.

Cadet's gain insight into a variety of activities related to the fire service from firefighter training to first aid and HazMat Awareness training. For young men and women who are interested in careers in the field of fire service, the Cadet program offers experiential learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of adolescent youth while promoting team work.

Buechel leaves Learning for Life -Explorer Program

Buechel discontinued our affiliation with the Learning for Life - Exploring Program and returned to our previous Cadet program in January of 2010. The Explorer program has served us well until recent changes in the support and guidance provided by the Enterprise District. Our decision to move away from the Explorer program is solely based on the needs of our youth program was not being met at the level we feel our participants deserve. Our original Cadet program, that began in the early 80's, has been instrumental in fostering the participation of youth in the fire service. We have had many successes with the program over the many years and our past members who graduated from the Cadet program have become leaders in our community. From Fire Chief, District Chiefs, Captains and other ranks within Jefferson County, we have trained a number of youth to become vital members in our community. Many hold full-time career positions within our department and other fire and emergency services in the region.

Explorer Inferno 2009

Last year's Explorer Inferno was a huge success, and we are planning to have an even greater year. The Explorer Inferno event is an opportunity for Fire and Emergency Medicine Explorers to participate in a hands-on fire school, where they may accrue training hours. The aim of the Explorer Inferno is threefold: To provide excellent hands on training, to do it safely, and to have a blast!
