Firefighter Steve Harrington died while attempting to rescue a boy from a burning house on Bruce Avenue on October 28, 1980. Steve joined the Buechel Fire Protection District in 1973, and dedicated many hours to this community. Firefighter Phil Harrington (No Relation) was also burned in the Bruce Avenue fire. The Jefferson County Fire Training Academy dedicated the "Flashover Simulator" in the name of Firefighter Steve Harrington and Sgt. Craig Drury (Highview F.P.D), whom both, died in the line of duty when a flashover occurred. Fireman's
